The SDG Fund has allocated more than $3 Million for five Districts in order to accelerate development in local communities.
Acquiring Capital to invest is always the problem many say they face when it comes to starting income-generating projects.
Over the next 2 years, the most vulnerable local residents in five Districts of all four Province are to be assisted to develop; with slightly more than $3 Million having been set aside by the SDG Fund; with women being focused on.
There is also the matter of how the money is to be managed at the local level.
Anastase Shyaka, Minister of Local Government told RBA; “These Programs to improve social welfare must first and foremost be a priority for authorities at the local level, giving them the required attention and follow up. The money has to be properly managed and no corruption should be involved. There must also be no mismanagement of any kind and local leaders must closely interact with their residents. We also ask other government institutions to support local authorities to fulfill those responsibilities,"
The push in the Districts of Kirehe, Karongi, Rutsiro, Burera, and Nyamagabe is being driven by the Food and Agriculture Organization, UNICEF, the World Food Program and the Government of Rwanda.
