Rwanda and
the Democratic Republic of Congo are going to step up their collaboration on the use of drones in order
to speed up development in both countries.
This follows a Drone flying Competition which is set to be held in Rwanda this week.
Preparations for the Competition are underway in Karongi District of the Western Province where 10 teams are to participate, as confirmed by officials from the Rwanda Airports Company.
The Drone Competition will be held over Lake Kivu and Aviation Authorities from the DRC say it will help to further cement the good relations between Rwanda and that country.
Jean Tshumba from DRC’s Aviation Authority said; "The President of DRC recently visited Rwanda and this country's President also visited Congo. As technicians, therefore, we support this bilateral cooperation that benefits all of us. Rwanda has made some impressive progress when it comes to the use of drones, delivering essential medical supplies to areas that can be hard to reach. The DRC has only just started trying this and so this is an opportunity to meet drone manufactures. We share a lot in this activity and will benefit a lot from it,"
The Competition comes ahead of the African Drone Summit Rwanda is to host from the 5th to the 7th of this month.
