In a tragic
incident that has shaken the local community, six people have gone missing in a
mining trench in the Kinazi sector of Huye district. The trench collapsed
during illegal mining activities, and the individuals are believed to have been
buried alive.
The depth of the trench is estimated to be between 60 and 100 meters, making the rescue operation a challenging task for the police unit responsible for such emergencies. The search has so far yielded no results.
Local government officials in the area have expressed their surprise at the incident, saying they were not aware of any such activities taking place. However, residents have reported engaging in and benefiting from the mining activity for the past four years.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of illegal mining activities, and the local authorities are urging residents to report any such activities and work with the authorities to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
