On Wednesday, President Ruto visited Irembo headquarters during his second day of a state visit to Rwanda. He interacted with the Irembo team about the efficiency of their services, including the USSD and web-based platform that provides access to various public services for both Rwandans and foreigners.
They discussed the services offered, their impact on citizens, and governance broadly. “We discussed our shared vision of digital transformation to meaningfully improve people’s lives,” Irembo tweeted.
Since its creation in 2015, Irembo has been the best at providing public services in both rural and urban areas. They have proven to be technology-friendly, shifting most of their services from manual modes to digital ones.
During his visit, President Ruto followed the signing of a bilateral technology partnership and eight other agreements between Rwanda and Kenya.
Recently, Irembo added provisional electronic driving permit services to their online offerings in partnership with the Rwanda National Police.
This initiative came after years of people struggling to go through a lengthy process to obtain driving permits. It required getting documents from different settings and waiting for a certain period of time. The new online system reduces costs and saves time for citizens.
